The site is operated by an independent publisher based in the United Kingdom, trading as NameInClass, which is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

Under UK GDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:
With your consent, the following categories are used:
_ga and _ga_<id> cookies to distinguish visitors and measure usage. Typical lifetime up to 2 years. Set only after you consent to analytics.awin1.com) may set cookies when an affiliate banner is displayed or clicked, so that a resulting purchase can be attributed to this site. See section 8.Separately, we store a small amount of information in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device and is not used to track you: nic-theme and theme (your light/dark preference), nic-recent (names you have recently viewed, so we can show them again), and your UK/US country preference. You can clear these at any time through your browser settings.
Some pages load resources from third parties โ Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) and a script library from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. Requesting a file from those services necessarily reveals your IP address to them. They are not used to set advertising cookies.
If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will be shown a consent message before advertising and analytics cookies are used. We use a Google-certified consent management platform that participates in the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework.
Until you consent, analytics and advertising storage are switched off by default on this site through Google’s Consent Mode. You can accept, refuse, or choose individual purposes via Manage options.
To change or withdraw your choice later, clear this site’s cookies and local storage in your browser and reload the page โ the consent message will appear again. You can also opt out of personalised Google advertising at Google Ads Settings, independently of this site.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, so we can improve the pages and tools people actually find useful. Where you have not consented to analytics storage, Google Analytics operates without analytics cookies and we receive only aggregated, non-identifying measurements.
You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. For details of how Google processes this data, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
We use Google AdSense to display adverts. Where you have consented, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure personalised adverts based on your visits to this and other sites. Where you have not consented, adverts may still be shown but are non-personalised or limited.
We do not control which specific adverts are shown, and we do not receive the personal data that advertisers collect. You may opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
Some banners and links on this site are affiliate links, served through the Awin network. If you click one and go on to buy something, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate links never influence our data, rankings or recommendations. Every popularity figure on this site comes from official ONS or SSA statistics and is unaffected by any commercial relationship.
Awin may set cookies and load a tracking image when an affiliate banner is displayed or clicked, in order to attribute a purchase to this site. See the Awin privacy policy for details of their processing.
Our contact form is processed by Formspree (Formspree, Inc.), which receives the name, email address and message you submit and forwards it to us by email. Formspree acts as a processor on our behalf; see the Formspree privacy policy.
We use what you send only to reply to you. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not use your address for marketing.
The shortlist tool stores only what you type into it: the shortlist title, the names on it, voter display names, and votes. It requires no account, no email address, and is not linked to your identity.
Anyone holding a shortlist’s share link can view and vote on it, so please treat the link as you would any private URL and only share it with people you want to include. Voter identifiers are hashed before they are returned to the page. Shortlist pages are excluded from search-engine indexing.
We use the information described above only to:
We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing.
Some of our providers โ including Google, Formspree and Awin โ process data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
All name popularity data on this site comes from published, aggregate government statistics. It contains no personal data about any individual child.
Classroom figures are statistical estimates calculated from those published totals, not records of real children. Our methodology page explains exactly how they are worked out.
This site is intended for adults โ parents and expectant parents choosing a name. We do not target children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us via our contact form and we will delete it.
If you are in the UK or the EEA, you have the right to access your personal data, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data deleted, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, send us a message through our contact form. Because we hold very little personal data, it helps if you tell us what you are referring to โ for example the share link of a shortlist you want removed, or the email address you contacted us from.
You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
This site links to external websites, including the ONS, the SSA, Wikipedia and retailers we have affiliate relationships with. We are not responsible for their privacy practices and recommend reviewing their own policies.
We may update this policy from time to time. Any change will be published on this page with a new “last updated” date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use personal data will be reflected in the consent message where consent is required.
