NameInClass is operated by an independent publisher based in the United Kingdom, trading as NameInClass. We may update these terms from time to time; the version published here is the one that applies. How we handle personal data is covered separately in our Privacy Policy.
NameInClass is a free information site. It turns published government birth-registration statistics into name profiles, popularity trends, and an estimate of how many children in a typical UK class of 28 are likely to share a given name.
We are independent and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Office for National Statistics, the Social Security Administration, or any government body.
We work hard to get the data right, and our methodology page sets out exactly how every figure is produced. Even so, please understand what these numbers are:
The site is provided for general information and interest. It is not professional advice, and you shouldn’t rely on it for any decision that matters legally, medically or financially.

The shortlist tool lets you build a name list and invite others to vote. You remain responsible for what you and your invitees put into it.
Anyone holding a shortlist’s share link can view and vote on it, so treat that link as private and share it only with people you want included. Shortlists are deleted automatically 365 days after the last activity, so please don’t rely on the tool as permanent storage. We may remove a shortlist that breaches section 4.
By submitting content you give us permission to store and display it in order to operate the tool. You keep any rights you have in it.
The underlying statistics are public-sector information published by the ONS and the SSA and remain theirs. ONS data is used under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Biographical summaries of notable people are adapted from Wikipedia and used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Those passages remain available under that same licence.
Our own wording, page design, analysis and the classroom-prediction method are ours. You’re welcome to quote or cite us with a link, but please don’t republish pages wholesale.
This site is funded by advertising and by affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Commercial relationships never affect our data or rankings — every figure comes from official statistics and is unaffected by any advertiser. We don’t control which adverts are served to you and aren’t responsible for advertisers’ products, sites or claims.
